The problem is not rec. If D class dosent have enough teams the problem is E, the best in E need to move up. Then I belive the best teams in Rec would move up.  How does moving rec teams to E solve Ds problem.

. It is what it is there is a rec division and I don't see it going anywhere anytime soon if it keeps bringing in 20something teams.

It's the beginning of the process. Yes, E is a problem, too. However, if you bump all of the upper E teams to D, and leave REC the way it is, then a lot of "E" tourneys won't make (everyone would be in D and REC). It's a trickle down process

If you want REC, regulate the crap out of it to get the decent REC teams up to E ASAP. Then move the upper E teams to D (and so on). It's either that, or get rid of REC altogether and just have E, D and C (but like I said in my previous post, REC does serve a purpose).

I know for a FACT that there are certain E teams that have told directors at the beginning of the year that they wouldn't play NSA if they had to play D. Then they chopped their roster of enough of the automatic bump players so they could stay in E. Totally ridiculous, but they can do that because of the system currently in place ("well, another sanction will let us play E" shouldn't be a valid argument - that's the other part of the problem).

As someone else stated... when you give the 3GG to the Rec teams, and make the E and higher teams just double elimination, what incentive is it for a Rec team to want to play up??

Maybe put the 3GG to the better teams??     I mean a 25 team 3GG has to be a nightmare for directors to finish in a timely manner..

Cjf sounds like the solution. NOW! DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW WE GET IT IMPLEMENTED.

I really think it begins with changing the structure of REC. Rec should exist to get teams starting out a level playing field. Once you start winning, you're bumped (one win or 2 placing finishes = bumped). The bump from REC to E should happen a LOT faster than E to D. In other words, teams shouldn't be playing in REC all year. Take the incentive to play in REC all year away. There shouldn't be an incentive to "trophy hunt" in REC. Give them a crappy prize pkg and less guaranteed games and i'll think that will go away.

If people want to play REC for fun (and not to get better), go to Ferguson Park in Gastonia. There's a REC tourney pretty much every weekend. You get to hit HR's w/ 525's, and the tourneys are pretty cheap. Stop clogging up the tournaments and parks for teams that want to get better and move up. Thanks

It goes without posting but you could pull threads from 1-2-3-4-5 even 6 years ago and would almost be carbon copy of what is being said now...Some of the "ideas" and "theories" are awesome but I really wholeheartedly believe as long as $$$ is coming in, very little will change...Thats not a Jeff, Dools, whoever's fault, that's just basic economics at work...I cant fault any director who is trying to make a living or supplement a living by trying to maximize the number of teams each week and it seems to be the way to do that is to offer this e / Rec class. Heck, it wouldn't surprise me to see a "first year" bracket at some point in the future.
Not to sterotype "anyone" but the majority of Americans in 2012 have a "entitlement" mentality that even trickles down sometimes into softball. "We pay 250.00 and By Gosh , we deserve to play very close games with a minimum of 3-5 games "guaranteed" and we better not get run ruled in any game because by gosh this is America and everybody deserves fairness!"

As a few others have posted, my "hayday" of weekend ball in the 90's and early 2000's was ...You show up, have NO IDEA who was playing in your class, played as hard as you could every game, if you went 2 and BBQ , you tucked your tail and hoped nobody saw you leaving Lakeside at 1pm. You didnt whine about 3gg or 5 gg round robins..Your team hit during the week and tried to get better or you found another team !

This is the best post ever.  What's wrong with America has now truned to softball.  Everybody is not created evenly and there are winners and losers.  We start early now by promotingin little league everyone get a trophy but to change society you need to teach that you should be better or do better to recieve rewards, not just for showing up.  i have played in ga and sc for the last 10 years and know that sc always has better teams than Georgia because they move teams up every year in Georgia. I have not played in Ga the last two years but last time i played there was no rec, there could be one today who knows.

Well i finally got A Sec to post! i have 4 Division This Week-End[Everyone says Three] But The Upper We have Is Very Rare, So You can say three Divisions. Everyone sayd Do away With the Rec so Here Is What Im Going to do...All Rec teams this Week are now E,All E Teams Are Now D and all D teams Are Now C-All C/B teams Are Class A! Really dont matter what you call it, i feel the groups we have are egual across the board and thats what we got to shoot for! Everyone says they want more Teams In D WELL This Week i had 4 D teams Drop because It Was 2 Day..and a couple more was on verge of it! So If we Had More Teams No one Could Play Because its 2 Day,Its a No Win Situation For Everyone! Thanks And Good luck in Your New Class Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin

I think people's biggest problem with rec come from posts like this.  Are really talking about repeating as rec champions.  If you were one of the better Rec teams last year why aren't you playing E.  I think that there is a place for rec but I feel like if most everyone around the state  knows your team name you probably need to graduate on from rec.
